In the middle of a large symphony orchestra: Multimedia Exhibition in Hamburg (Germany)

Hamburg Elbphilharmonie project group has annouced a fantastic multimedia show:

“How does it feel to be right in the middle of a large symphony orchestra, experiencing the power of its sound right at the very source? The multimedia and interactive exhibition »re-rite. Be the Orchestra!« makes this possible – even for anyone who has never touched an instrument. At the Elbphilharmonie construction site you can watch a performance of Stravinsky’s masterpiece »Le Sacre du printemps« (»The Rite of Spring«), played by the Philharmonia Orchestra London and conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. This is no ordinary performance, but one that was captured by 29 different cameras from unusual and spectacular perspectives. In »re-rite« you can follow the individual musicians up-close on large video screens, beat the drums together with the orchestra´s own timpanist or even reach for the conductor´s baton and direct the whole orchestra.

100 Years of »The Rite of Spring«
»Re-rite« celebrates one of the most famous works of music history. The premiere of »The Rite of Spring«
in Paris on 29th May 1913 remains one of the greatest scandals of music history. The explosive music shocked the audience into such a state of turmoil that they came to blows during the premiere. Since then »The Rite of Spring« has stood for the birth of Modern Music – and the driving rhythms continue to thrill audiences today.

There is no better place to present »re-rite« than at the construction site of the future Elbphilharmonie. »The Rite of Spring« represented the start of a new musical era, as does the emerging concert hall on the River Elbe. The future car park of the Elbphilharmonie is open to the public for the first time for this music project. The wide circular ramp of the car park offers visitors a breathtaking perspective of the virtual orchestra. How does it feel to be right in the middle of a large symphony orchestra, experiencing the power of its sound right at the very source?
