The Concertgebouworkest is devoted to talent development and is doing everything in its power to ensure that its education programmes can continue in so far as coronavirus restrictions permit.

Conducting masterclass

On Wednesday, 24, Thursday, 25 and Friday, 26 June 2020, the orchestra plans to let the Ammodo Conducting Masterclass, presided over by Iván Fischer, go ahead without an audience. The masterclass will be streamed live from the Concertgebouw on the Concertgebouworkest’s website and social media channels. Details relating to changed times will be made public at a later date.

The Ammodo Masterclass is invaluable to the conductors participating and to music lovers looking to learn more about the fascinating interaction between conductor and orchestra. Iván Fischer will be sharing his knowledge and experience with four very gifted young conductors: Earl Lee (Korea/Canada), Corinna Niemeyer (Germany), Jaume Santonja (Spain) and Katharina Wincor (Austria). The Ammodo Masterclass is made possible in part thanks to Ammodo, with contributions from the Kirill Kondrashin Fund and the Schweizer Mengelberg Stiftung.

The Concertgebouworkest Academy

For over fifteen years, the Concertgebouworkest Academy has been highly successful in moulding young orchestral musicians. Ten Academy places are available for the 2020–21 season, seven of which have already been filled. Owing to uncertainties regarding musical performances, however, the orchestra has unfortunately had to postpone their Academy training until the 2021–22 season.

Concertgebouworkest Young

Concertgebouworkest Young, the youth orchestra catering for talented Europeans aged fourteen to eighteen in need of a little extra support, got off to a flying start in the summer of 2019. From the 320 applications received for Young’s second season, 72 talented young people from 25 countries were selected. The 2020 Young summer programme and concerts have been postponed for one year. These youngsters will, however, be receiving lessons online during the 2020–21 season, including masterclasses given by Concertgebouworkest musicians.

Following the acclaimed concert performances in August 2019, last year’s participants have enthusiastically embraced their role as Young ambassadors. To help motivate and support them in these difficult times, Concertgebouworkest musicians have offered these young people a number of additional online masterclasses, with as many as sixty young players taking part.
